The Department of Archaeology officially opened the Sedat Alp Collection on February 14 in its Reading Room, formally integrating an extensive assembly of books, periodicals, notes and photographs into the department’s library. Donated by Mehpare Alp in honor of her late father, Professor Sedat Alp—a foundational figure in Turkish Hittitology—the 900‐item collection spans Hittitology, Assyriology, Archaeology and Ancient History and underscores Alp’s pivotal role in advancing the study of Anatolian civilizations.
Comprising both physical volumes and digitized excavation records, the collection offers invaluable research materials for scholars and students, and its inauguration highlighted its potential to deepen academic inquiry. Complementing these archival holdings, a curated exhibition of selected photographs, drawings and personal documents—designed by graduate and undergraduate students—provides visitors with a tangible glimpse into Sedat Alp’s lifelong scholarly legacy.
