Dr Kirill Chepurin from the Program in Cultures, Civilizations, and Ideas is the recipient of this year’s Klaus Heyne Award. The award, conferred by Goethe University Frankfurt, recognizes outstanding scholarly contributions in the field of German Romanticism. Dr Chepurin received the award in recognition of his important monograph Bliss against the World: Schelling, Theodicy, and the Crisis of Modernity (Oxford University Press, 2024). The jury noted that “This is a highly original work that not only proposes a reinterpretation of Romanticism by illustrating how strongly “bliss” – which around 1800 was discussed within the semantic field of “blessing” and “salvation” – shaped Schelling’s philosophy and Romantic thought more generally.” Chepurin also intends to explore these issues further at the international conference he will organize in 2027 at Goethe University, with the support of the Heyne Award.
